I had a habit of giving my guitar away
Once again
I found myself without a guitar
We were recording at our friend Abram’s log cabin in the woods on Vashon Island
Wonderfully rainy day
Swaying trees
Fire crackling
My favorite
I picked up Abram’s guitar
tuned it very oddly
(still haven’t found that tuning)
Laid down two guitars
and before thought
Made up the vocals
The ones you hear
Nicholas Iris came home
Wandering in
I played it for him
Now Iris is a mellow dude
But, he became crazy-eyed
and a wee bit frantic
He asked me
to make everyone leave
Right away
There were a lot of people visiting
Not entirely sure
what was happening
Everyone left to go to town
I went woods walking in the rain
When I returned
it was the dark blue light of dusk
A twinkle-eyed Nicholas
Waiting at the door
Joyously pulled me inside
High vaulted main room of the cabin
dim, star-lit with candles
the fireplace dancing
Iris had set a chair
in the center of the room
with the speakers spread wide
He handed me a pipe
and hit play .....
“Cryptic Scrolls
and the Northwind Knows ...”
He had played all the other instruments
Bass, talking drum, shakers, and piano

So good
Eventually, everyone returned
Abram came home
Heard the song
and gave me his guitar
I still have it today
Thankful
A good day in the Northland
Listen close in the ending ....

around the cabin
